When and how to check recalls on your vehicle
We just missed a promotion from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the fine folks who do their best to keep us safe on the roads. When a vehicle (not your individual vehicle, but a entire make/model of vehicle like ‘2022 Honda Accord’) has a problem or defect, the manufacturer usually has to fix the problem at their cost. The issue ‘recalls’ for affected vehicles telling the owners what the problem is, what it needs to be fixed, and when to come in to get it done. However, most people don’t obsessively check to see if their vehicle is on an active recall list and they can miss out on serious safety, dependability, or comfort fixes.
To get people to remember to check for recalls they recommend you check the NHTSA Recall Website every 6 months when the time changes back (or forth) to Daylight Saving Time. (Like you’re supposed to do for things like toothbrushes and smoke alarm batteries. You ARE doing things like that, aren’t you?) Put in your license plate, VIN, or year/make/model, and it will come back with all active recalls. Quick and easy!
Just so you know, we always have a link to the NHTSA Website every month here in Shop Talk (just scroll down to the bottom of this page). You don’t have to wait for Spring and Fall unless you want to… we’ll keep reminding you here.
Comment of the Month
This month’s Comment came from one of our favorite clients, Marychris M. She jokingly responded to a cartoon we posted, and we jokingly responded back, but we’ll use her Comment to make a non-joking point… don’t ignore the bad stuff, it will only get worse. Your dreaded ‘check engine’ light usually means an oil change is due or something minor, but it could be something much more serious. (If the light is on steadily you don’t need to worry as much, but if it’s blinking then STOP DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND CALL US IMMEDIATELY). It’s easy to put off warning signals, but that warning light, or rattle, or bumpy ride will only grow if you ignore it. Call us… we won’t bite!

We have a couple ongoing offers you might find valuable…
Carbon Neutral Program–
Our company’s commitment to the environment led us to partner with Bonneville Environmental Foundation to create our Carbon Neutral Program in 2007. Client members offset the carbon production of their vehicles for one year AND save 10% on Labor Charges here at the shop! It’s a win for you AND our environment and it’s been very successful… since we instituted the program our members have prevented over 1.9 MILLION POUNDS of carbon from being dumped into our air!
Referral Reward Program–
Year after year, referrals from our existing clients are our greatest source of new clients, so we’ve tried hard to think of some way to appropriately reward people for their referrals. Our solution is our Referral Reward Program, where we make donations to the non-profit group of your choice to say ‘thanks’ for your generous referrals.
Your reviews and referrals matter
We are constantly grateful for the supportive and loyal clients we have developed over the years. Your comments and appreciation keep us on the right road to providing the superior automotive service you deserve. Your reviews and referrals are not only the highest compliments we can receive, but they’re the lifeblood of our new business. If you like what you’ve found at Tom Dwyer Automotive Services, please tell a friend or take a minute to write a review on Yelp, Angieslist, Google, or the review site of your choice. Thank you!
Latest Automotive Recalls
Automobiles are just like any other product; occasional flaws in manufacture or design can cause problems once they leave the factory. When an issue is identified the manufacturers and government work hard to bring the vehicles back in for refit or repair, but not all recalls make the front pages. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration maintains a constantly updated list of recalls from every manufacturer. The last month’s recalls are below, but clicking the button at right will take you to the full list at the NHTSA website.
