Imagine you’re a young kid facing a life-threatening disease. When you need joy most you find yourself in a terrifying, beeping, sterile, lonely, painful, antiseptic hell. You’re in the hands of the best medical teams, people who care about you intensely, but they’re also causing your fears… not a source of joy. Your family is a source of love and support, but they’re devastated by your pain… no joy there. Your friends don’t understand what’s going on; on their occasional visits they’re as mystified by the medical morass as you are… no joy. Your tattered teddy bear may bring a shred of comfort during a long, lonely night, but not joy. In a bleak and horrifying world you need much more than medicine. Where do you turn for joy?
For 28 years JoyRX, the Children’s Cancer Association, has shouldered the burden of bringing joy to kids who need it most- “one song, one friendship, one breath of ocean air at a time”. Through their JoyRx Music, JoyRx Mentorship, and JoyRx Nature programs, they reach into the darkest of worlds to create feel-good moments for children who need it most. These moments can help relieve the sadness, anxiety, and isolation experienced during lengthy treatments and hospitalizations, completely transforming a child’s pediatric healthcare experience.

YOU can help JoyRX spread joy through their Music program, Mentor program, or as a JoyRX Event Volunteer. We’ve never had the privilege of working with JoyRX, but have with other groups and we’ll make you this promise on their behalf… you’ll work hard, you won’t get paid, you’ll cry a lot, you won’t be appreciated by the public at large, and you’ll never, ever regret a moment you spend with them. This is a life-changing opportunity for anyone who participates, so if you have time or talent to contribute, don’t do it for the kids… do it for yourself.
