Tour this Southwest Portland architectural treasure

from OregonLive.com- “Saul Zaik died in 2020 at the age of 93, but the architect’s legacy in Oregon will live on for a long time in the handsome midcentury houses he designed with a strong connection to the outdoors.  Perhaps the most famous of these is the octagonal house built in 1970 that sits on a ship’s mast salvaged from the USS O’Hara, a WWII naval ship. Portland’s Homeless Housing Experiment Gets Under Way

From OPB- “By the end of the month, Portland intends to open the first of six planned large outdoor homeless shelters.  On Monday, [Jul 24] local politicians met at the Clinton Triangle Temporary Alternative Shelter Site, located at Southeast Gideon Street and Southeast 13th Avenue, to preview the new shelter…  The city’s largest homeless shelter will hold 140 sleeping pods to accommodate an estimated 200 Portlanders experiencing homelessness.  “They want us to prove that we can make it work,” Wheeler said. “I am 100% confident that we will…”          Read more…
