It no longer matters if an argument is true, as long as it works.
It’s incredibly damaging when politicians, religious figures, business leaders, or media pundits don’t feel an obligation to basic facts.
Sure, people have always lied, especially politicians. But back when media did its job, people caught in blatant lies would be shamed and their lies corrected.
Goebbels understood. If you’re going to lie, lie big, stick to it, and keep lying, even when you look ridiculous.
W M D, Death panels, government take overs, Marxism, climate hoaxes… Massive damage has been done by made-up, inflammatory rhetoric used to sway the masses.
It’s long past time we restored truth and integrity to our public life. We deserve better than a society built on self-serving lies.
