Jefferson couldn’t foresee the challenges of attracting our notice in today’s blizzard of corporate media, when entire media networks are devoted to propaganda.
And, after the 30 year attack on public education, people no longer understand their critical duty as citizens in maintaining proper governance. “Honda” shouldn’t be the first word that we associate with “civics”.
A dumbed down and detached electorate could finish our democracy. Each of us must stay informed, call our representatives, commit our time and money for political causes, and compete for supremacy at the water cooler and if we don’t; we are part of the problem. For our representative democracy to succeed, every citizen needs to participate.
