Popcorn Shorts

Cool stuff that’s too small for a big article

Just like it says, Popcorn Shorts is about the kind of things we think are really interesting, but don’t really need a large article to explain them.  From the sublime to the ridiculous, check in here for crunchy bits of info you’ll love to munch.  By the way, much (but not necessarily all) of our delicious Popcorn comes from articles we’ve posted on our Facebook page.  If you’re on Facebook, please stop by and “Like” us and we’ll keep a fairly-constant-but-not-frequent-enough-to-be-annoying stream of these coming to your virtual door!

Civics Isn’t Dead!  Welcome to the Tigard Civics Bee

“The Tigard Chamber of Commerce is participating in the National Civics Bee® because we believe that informed and active citizens make for a strong country, a strong economy, and a strong workforce, and that our continued prosperity depends on the strength of all three.” Yervant Wei, Emeryn Tibbs and Athanasia Gatziolis [were] the top winners of the first-ever civics bee hosted by the Tigard Chamber of Commerce.  Click here for the Tigard Civics Bee page, here for an article about the winners, and click HERE TO TAKE THE CIVICS QUIZ YOURSELF

According to their website, “The Museum of Failure is a collection of failed products and services from around the world… Innovation needs failure. All progress is built on learning from past failures and mistakes. The museum provides unique insight into the tricky business of innovation.”  And you’ll find all the dead ends of innovation here.  Enjoy classics like New Coke and the $2 bill, check new failures like NuSpoon, Keurig Kold, and Quibi, or cringe at whole galleries like “Medical Mishaps” or “The Future is (Not) Now”.  It’s a schadenfreude workout… enjoy!

(from Portland.gov)  “The Metro Council has awarded Portland Parks & Recreation a $750,000 2040 Planning and Development Grant for the transformative Tom McCall Waterfront Park Bowl Redevelopment Project. This establishes a partnership between Metro and PP&R to develop the project’s final scope and execute an intergovernmental agreement (IGA)… The City will plan a national design competition to reimagine the iconic Bowl section of the park… The competition, led by a Creative Director, will invite design consultants to craft innovative visions for a revitalized park space that will serve as a hub for outdoor entertainment and cultural activities along the river…”
