When you’ve lied to all the adults, you’re just down to the kids.

When we shove a book out on stage into the Spotlight we usually think it’s worth reading. Sometimes we’ve read the book ourselves, other times not. Sometimes it’s a book everyone’s twittering about, other times it’s a book you almost certainly haven’t heard of. This time we don’t see any value at all in the book itself, but we think it’s critically important to know it’s out there. Donald Trump’s (and his Team’s) lies about the election have damaged our democratic system and may yet destroy it. These lies, where there’s a coherent enough allegation to test, have been repeatedly demonstrated to be false in every venue they’ve been tried. They ARE lies.

However, the truth of the allegations isn’t remotely relevant to their effectiveness. The more they’re pressed, the more the believers believe, and that belief gives a fig leaf for actions that not even the proponents could defend otherwise. There’s not much gray area in this stuff; citizens either realize the lie or can make themselves comfortable with it. But what about the kids? The kids are coming up, and they’ll be a new crop of voters in just a few years. Lying to them now, before they have any knowledge of civics, law, history, ethics, or politics, makes them ideal harvest for the Trumpets then.

You can’t back their ethics but you can’t fault their ruthlessness… Trump administration lackey Kash Patel is out with a book directly targeting his lies to kids. Know about, tell your friends about, but please don’t buy…
