Have we become so complacent that we just accept the loss of habeas corpus and the return of a king?
This past New Year’s Eve, a Saturday safe from media scrutiny, president Obama signed the two thousand twelve National Defense Authorization Act, ordaining rendition and indefinite detention without trial of anyone suspected of ambiguous terrorism charges… Including U S Citizens.
In a signing statement issued with his signature that destroyed American freedom, Obama said:
“I have signed this bill despite having serious reservations…”
and
“I want to clarify that my Administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens. Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a Nation.”
Well then why the blazes did he sign it?!
Even though he claims he won’t use the power, what about the presidents to come?
Our civil liberties have just become one step closer to extinction….
