Where does your used oil go?
One gallon of used oil can contaminate one hundred thousand gallons of ground water. Not all of Portland’s used oil is handled properly. There is a range of choices for recycling used oil, some are better than others. Used oil that ends up at Bill’s company ORRCO is handled properly and is separated into many needed products that help us wean off of foreign oil.
Some recycler’s sell their oil as bunker fuel for industrial plants and processes. This would be an example of what is known as “single pass recycling”. Though better than no recycling, ORRCO’S processes promote “multiple pass recycling”. They take used oil and make; re-refined motor oil, light diesel fuel / kerosene, diesel fuel / 100, neutral base oil, 300 neutral base oil, asphalt flux / for asphalt blend, finished water. These products extend the amount of times the hydrocarbon molecules can be used.
Portland Quick lubes don’t send their oil to ORRCO!
Unfortunately Portland’s largest generators of used oil do not believe in supporting “multiple pass recycling”. Even though the customer is charged an environmental fee for disposal of their vehicle’s used oil it ends up being sold as bunker fuel and flows into the “single pass” system.
Tom Dwyer Automotive Services supports ORRCO!
ORRCO recycles more than just oil; antifreeze, petroleum filters, oily rags, oil spill clean-up materials, contaminated soils, fats, greases, cutting fluids, oil emulsified water, plastics, and more are processed and kept from the landfills or the environment. What is really amazing is that it is all done without the use of natural gas to power the processes. ORRCO uses “Co-Generation” techniques to power up the processes used to run the plants. After touring their facilities I was really impressed with what they do and the way they do it! Bill is an amazing man and we are lucky to have him here working for the environment and helping fight PEAK OIL. Check out their website at: www.orrco.biz
